About

Dr. Krista Vernaleken grew up in northern New Jersey and has wanted to be a veterinarian since she was about 9 years old. She graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in Biology, and then moved on to veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania. She joined Bulger immediately after school and has been here ever since. Dr. Vernaleken has a love of dentistry, and has attended multiple conferences and training seminars to gain additional learning in this field. She focuses her overall practice on primary care of dogs and cats, but occasionally does see furry exotics. She also is certified in the PennHIP method of radiographically evaluating the hips of dogs. Dr. Vernaleken became Medical Director in 2011. She lives locally with her husband, twin girls, deaf dog, two cats, and two guinea pigs.

She’s very interested in aquarium fish keeping, and has a freshwater and saltwater tank at home. She is by no means an expert, but does enjoy working on the biochemistry of the tanks and keeping them thriving and disease-free. They are beautiful, but do involve a ton of work!
